Mean while...

In no time we four became a gang. Our routine work was to rush to canteen as soon as we enter the college. And we were the first in juniors to step into canteen. ‘No junior was ordered to get into canteen till 2nd year’ this was the ultimatum passed by our principal to keep juniors away from Ragging. But we never cared the order. The canteen used to a place like where hungry jackels waiting for their prey enter into their trap. Nikhil and Sid used follow some of the orders passed by our seniors. But Balu and me never bowed to seniors. And this took to a situation where all our seniors got into fight with us. But still we never cared.

Time passed as the wind. We became noted to all the staff for our mischievous works. And our branch was in black list. Our class was named as rough guys. The first junior to get suspended was from our class, Mr. Naren. The offence he did was to just walk into seniors lane. This was enough to get him pay fine. In addition to this menace, our performance in mid exams were below avg.

As days passed, our life turned into more horrifying scenario. Our Classical mechanical Sir used to make us solve problems on blackboard. Our C& DS ma’am used to explain 2 page programs on arrays and structures. Our M1 ma’am used to write some greek and latin symbols and board and an extension to it our MM ma’am gave us algebraic fever.

In next few months, We all were in stress to find out answers for Cantilever trusses, fought with Fourier series sums, sorting out the Bubble sort & quick sort programs, faced torture with Triple Integrals and used our intelligence to find out which one is Convergent and which one is Divergent. I hate this. All this was not shown in ‘Happy days” movie. We all students got betrayed by the movie.

In that chaotic life, we found some place and time to relieve our selves. Our favorite places were ‘Labs’. In Physics lab, we used to play with tensional pendulum. In Chemistry lab, we used to mix some random chemicals in order to release a pungent smell. And English Communication Lab was fun spot. No one was fluent in English and due to this the JAM sessions, role play  became hilarious comedy shows.

There was tree on the way to the canteen and this tree was our hangout spot for fun. We all used to gather there in our breaks and laugh to the core by teasing other students and passing comments on girls, passing through that way.

And the time has come. JNTU announced the final exams date. Our final internal marks were displayed on notice board. We scanned through the list for our marks. I scored 16 on avg in all subjects. Sid scored 14 on avg. Balu was on 12 and our gang topper Nikhil settled with 18. As every student does, we too dreamt of scoring above 60%. But…..

18th December 2008. The day which turned our fate. We got seated according to our roll numbers. As the bell rang, our invigilator started to distribute the question papers. Mathematics 1 was the subject.

‘You may start answering now,’ was the call from the invigilator.

I scanned the question paper. The whole paper was filled with some sort of symbols. I tried to recollect the units I have prepared but in despair nothing was flashing. I looked at the class, some maths genius people already started answering the paper. Mr . Naren was also scribbling the answer sheet. Our gang topper Nikhil was not lifting his head from his answer sheet. ( he gave the same reply ‘ I dint prepare much’ when we asked him on the way to college)

Balu was right behind me. His no. was 331 and mine was 330. He already made his preparation to sleep during exam. I felt some one was staring at me. I looked out and found it was Sid. He exchanged smiles. The smiles said ‘ what the f*ck is this question paper’.

‘Boy from the last 2nd bench, start writing’ said our invigilator. For the next two and half hours I wrote some stupid answers trying to fill atleast 15 pages. Even Sid and Balu tried to write something. We three know that what we are writing is just Bullsh*t. but still we kept on writing. The final bell rang and we were ordered to put down our pens. We submitted our papers and came out the class as prisoners set free on 15th august. It was our last exam and last day as juniors. We know we dint do well in the exam in spite of that we partied.
